You may notice that many pet owners are sharing testimonials online of using CBD for pain management in their pets. But what does the research say about using CBD for treating pain in pets?
Research Studies On CBD And Pet Pain
There are limited research studies on CBD and pain treatment for animals. The few studies available also suggest that more research is needed. However, these studies do show encouraging early findings.
Last year, Cornell University released the first medical hemp veterinary study from a major teaching hospital. Researchers from their College of Veterinary Medicine found the dogs in the study showed a decrease in pain and increase in activity during their four-week CBD treatment. The dog owners did not report any side effects in their pets, suggesting that CBD is safe for animals to use.
A recent study from Japan, published in Pet Behavior Science, also suggests that CBD has promise for treating seizures in dogs.
Two other research studies on CBD and animals are currently in the works. Cornell University is working on a similar study around CBD oil and felines. Colorado State University is examining CBD oil use to treat seizures and anxiety in dogs.
Benefits Of CBD For Pets
CBD supports joint mobility and soothes nerves, among other benefits. Pet owners frequently give their pets CBD before events that may be frightening for an animal, including long car rides or fireworks.
How To Give CBD To Pets
Similar to humans, every animal reacts differently to CBD. Some pet owners give CBD to their animals once per day and others administer it with every meal. There are also pet owners who give CBD when they feel its necessary.
CBD can be administered orally or mixed into food for animals. It is not meant for pets to vape or consume in any smokable form.
We recommend only giving your animal CBD products that have third-party testing results readily available. Test results for all of our products can be found under the “Test Results” tab of each product page.
Lazarus Naturals CBD Pet Tincture
Lazarus Naturals has a CBD Pet Tincture with suggested serving sizes based on weight. These can be found on the label and website page for this product.
There is nothing in the “human” version of our products that would be harmful to an animal. However, we always recommend our pet tincture because the CBD serving sizes are tailored for the specific needs of animals.
