CBD Safe Children Facebook

A growing number of parents are giving CBD to their children in hopes that the benefits of it will help them. However, there are no over-the-counter CBD products specifically for children. Some parents will naturally wonder if CBD is safe for children to use.

Research Studies

Hemp was classified as a Schedule I substance before the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, which limited research opportunities on the topic as a result.  A wave of new studies are now in play since hemp is no longer a controlled substance. More research is needed, but the handful of published studies on this topic suggest that CBD is safe for children to use.

A 2016 study in The Permanente Journal concludes that CBD is a “safe treatment” for kids. Research out of Israel, published last year in Frontiers in Pharmacology, notes that “adverse effects, mostly somnolence and change in appetite were mild” in children.

World Health Organization

The World Health Organization supports the use of CBD. Their 2017 report states that “it is generally well tolerated, with a good safety profile.” They also note that “CBD does not produce the effects that are typically seen with cannabinoids such as THC.”

In June 2018, the Food and Drug Administration approved Epidiolex. This prescription drug helps treat symptoms for two rare forms of severe childhood epilepsy. Epidiolex contains CBD and is the first cannabis-based medication to receive FDA approval.

CBD And Your Child

Before making CBD part of your child’s daily routine, we strongly advise doing these three things:

Talk with your family doctor: Their pediatrician should be aware of your plans to administer CBD. This will help them advise on any potential medication interactions and monitor possible side effects.

Look for reputable products: Any products you use should state the amount of CBD on the label and where it comes from. The company should also have third-party testing results on their website or readily available upon request. This is to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety.

Third-party test results for all Lazarus Naturals products are found on our website. Click on the “Test Results” tab of each individual product page.

Start Small: We recommend starting with a small amount and then increasing or decreasing the serving size as needed.

My 8 year old daughter has a developmental delay. Full spectrum CBD oil helps her, especially at school. We are currently petitioning our public school system to allow administration by teachers of oil and balms during the school day. Because she’s disabled, Lazarus allows her to participate in the Assistance Program and we are excited to be a part of the crusade.
