The Dangers Of Vaping CBD

Vaping has been creating plenty of conversation nationwide in recent months. We regularly receive questions from customers, both on our website and social media, asking if our CBD products can be used for vaping.

Lazarus Naturals products are not meant for vaping. Topicals are meant to be put directly on the skin, while our RSO, isolates, tinctures and capsules should be taken orally. Our tinctures can be also be taken sublingually (underneath the tongue).

However, if you’re regularly vaping CBD or considering trying it, it's important to educate yourself on the topic. Here are the basics that you need to know.

What Is Vaping?

Vaping is the act of inhaling the vapor from an e-cigarette or other device for smoking. People who vape CBD typically use one of two instruments. The most common is a “tank-style” vape, which involves a battery heating up a refillable container or small disposable cartridge of e-liquid. Pen-style vapes are also highly common, but typically used for concentrates.

Potential Dangers Of Vaping Devices

Disposable tank-style vapes are often cheaper, but carry drawbacks. Users have little control over the CBD quality, base chemicals in the e-liquid and metals in the coil. It typically requires more puffs to consume the same amount of CBD compared to a pen-style vape.

In pen-style devices, the heating coil will typically break down and oxidize through frequent use. This means metal nanoparticles can become aerosolized in the vapors you’re inhaling.

Additionally, CBD e-liquids contain vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. Those with sensitivities or allergies to these chemicals may experience symptoms including nausea, headache and sinus irritation.

Recent Vaping Reports

Huffington Post cites 450 cases of severe lung illnesses and three deaths linked to vaping and e-cigarettes. Health officials have not yet announced a specific cause for this rise in illnesses.

However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised against using vape products. In addition, they recommend not purchasing vape devices off the street or adding extras substances to vape products. The Army Public Health Center is also alerting service members to the dangers of vaping.

Lack Of Regulations

CBD vape products remain unregulated by the federal government. This can lead an inaccurate representation of what’s in a product, sparking potentially dangerous consequences.

An Associated Press investigation of 30 vape products sold as CBD finds that 10 of them contained dangerous substances with no accepted benefits. Several of the products also did not contain any CBD.
