CBD and adorable animals: Together at last and for a worthy cause.
The Pixie Project, a non-profit animal adoption center and rescue based in Portland, OR. The Pixie Project was founded 11 years ago and provides a variety of services including pet adoption, pet owner education and low-cost or free spay and neuter. They also offer veterinary services for homeless and low-income pet owners through their low-cost veterinary clinic.
Lazarus Naturals donated 100 bottles of our CBD Pet Tincture to this worthy organization. Amy Sacks, Founder and Executive Director of The Pixie Project, has been using CBD products on animals at the shelter and has given them to her own dog for the last several years.
“We definitely use it for senior animals and dogs that are transitioning from one home to another. I also think more pet owners are also using CBD in general,” she said. “CBD wasn’t really something that was talked about even a few years ago, let alone when I was growing up in Portland.”
A handful of recent clinical trials on the benefits of CBD oil for animals have shown significant promise, in part because animals are similar to humans in that they have an endocannabinoid system. CBD has beneficial effects including promoting restful sleep, enhancing relaxation and supporting healthy cartilage and joint function.
Amy believes that even more pet owners will soon become aware of the benefits of CBD and begin incorporating it into the lives of their four-legged friends.
“A tangible result [for animals] using CBD is harder to show because we haven’t been studying it long enough, but I personally feel that it provides comfort to the animals,” she said.
