Cannabis sativa L.

Hemp

Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is a legal classification of a Cannabis plant that contains 0.3% or less tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Hemp extract contains CBD and may contain other cannabinoids, terpenes and/or THC. These compounds are expected to have many health benefits, from pain relief to anti-inflammatory properties and relaxing effects. You’ll find Hemp in most of our products, including full-spectrum balms, oils, gummies and capsules.

Hemp vs. Marijuana: What’s the Difference?

What’s the difference between Hemp and Marijuana? It depends on who you ask. Legally, the distinction centers on the amount of THC a plant contains. If the THC content is below 0.3%, it’s Hemp. Plants with higher than 0.3% THC are Marijuana. Agriculturally and botanically speaking, Hemp and Marijuana are two common names for the same species, Cannabis sativa.

At Lazarus Naturals, every CBD product we sell is made from Hemp – Cannabis sativa with less than 0.3% THC – that we’ve grown, harvested and processed ourselves, as a vertically integrated company. You’ll notice that we italicize Cannabis in almost all instances. That’s an indication that we’re talking about the genus name for Hemp, not the colloquial term for the plant that exceeds 0.3% THC.

Modern Science & Research

Despite widespread public usage of full-spectrum CBD products, there is little scientific evidence to show the potential therapeutic effects of commercially available products that reflect the compounds of the entire Hemp plant. Federal regulations have largely limited clinical research to isolates and synthetic replicants of cannabinoids, which may not explain the effects of the totality of naturally occurring phytocannabinoids and terpenes found in full-spectrum products.
