Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol

Delta-9 THC (∆9 THC)

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most common phytocannabinoid in many Cannabis strains. THC has demonstrated potential for several beneficial activities as an analgesic, antiemetic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory substance, but it also causes intoxication characterized by feelings such as euphoria, lightheadedness and disruption of time perception. The degree to which these effects (beneficial or intoxicating) are experienced depends on the amount of THC in the product being used, and the dosage of the product. THC is present in all full-spectrum Lazarus Naturals products, as it is naturally occurring in full-spectrum Hemp extract (always under 0.3% – and generally under 2 mg – per serving). Please check the Product Test Results under the “Learn” tab on our website for specific THC levels in the product you are using.

Hemp vs. Marijuana: What’s the Difference?

What’s the difference between Hemp and Marijuana? It depends on who you ask. Legally, the distinction centers on the amount of THC a plant contains. If the THC content is below 0.3%, it’s Hemp. Plants with higher than 0.3% THC are Marijuana. Agriculturally and botanically speaking, Hemp and Marijuana are two common names for the same species, Cannabis sativa.

At Lazarus Naturals, every CBD product we sell is made from Hemp – Cannabis sativa with less than 0.3% THC – that we’ve grown, harvested and processed ourselves, as a vertically integrated company. You’ll notice that we italicize Cannabis in almost all instances. That’s an indication that we’re talking about the genus name for Hemp, not the colloquial term for the plant that exceeds 0.3% THC.

Modern Science & Research

Most modern research on THC relates to two FDA-approved medications, nabilone and dronabinol, or medical marijuana.

Nabilone is approved in the United States to treat nausea and vomiting for some chemotherapy patients. Research has shown that it also has effectiveness in relieving nerve pain, and symptoms of fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and other movement disorders. Dronabinol is approved in the US to treat nausea and vomiting in some chemotherapy patients and HIV/AIDs-induced anorexia in patients that do not respond to conventional treatment.

Both nabilone and dronabinol are synthetic (man-made) compounds that mimic THC. They are also a much higher dosage and percentage than what is found in Lazarus Naturals products.
