How To Identify Fake CBD

Growing interest in CBD means there are more CBD oil products on the market than ever. However, knowing how to identify fake CBD as a new consumer can be tricky.
Being able to recognize a few key details will greatly reduce your chances of buying bogus CBD products. Here are five ways to easily identify fake CBD.
“Cure-All” Promises
Some CBD products make claims that they aid in treating cancer and autism, among other medical conditions. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not support any of these claims. Reputable companies are aware of and adhere to these restrictions, however, those looking to make a quick buck are more than comfortable stuffing their sites with disease-related keywords.
In June 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex for the treatment of seizures in two rare forms of pediatric epilepsy. Epidiolex remains the only FDA-approved drug that contains CBD.
Drug Test Guarantees
Beware if you spot a CBD product with guarantees that you will still pass a drug test after taking it. Although hemp-derived CBD products must contain less than 0.3% THC by dry weight, per federal regulations, this does mean a positive test is possible. Drug tests are not uniform. The THC threshold that will yield a positive result is stricter in some tests than others. We recommend not using CBD products if this is a concern to you.
Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil is not CBD oil derived from hemp. Genuine CBD oil will have terms written on the label such as cannabidiol, full-spectrum hemp or hemp oil. Although there are benefits to hemp seed oil, there is not enough CBD in it for it to be labeled “CBD oil.”
“Free” Scams
Avoid purchasing CBD oil from sites that offer “free trials” or ask for credit card information to receive free samples. As the old saying goes, nothing in life is free.
Low CBD Content
The amount of CBD that a product advertises may seem impressive if you don’t know what to look for. The volume of the oil does not reflect its CBD content. In other words, look for the amount of CBD per serving size and not the total amount in the bottle. This will prevent you from buying large, expensive bottles with minimal CBD content.
